XRP Ledger Enhances Lending Protocol Ahead of Launch
The XRP Ledger is proactively refining its new lending protocol, adding an amendment to address issues within the original code before it officially goes live. This preemptive measure is designed to ensure a smoother rollout for its lending feature, which focuses on on-chain, fixed-term, uncollateralized loans sourced from pooled funds.
This amendment, known as LendingProtocolV1_1, is currently in the voting phase by network validators. It aims to correct flaws in the original LendingProtocol code, which is still pending approval. The XRP Ledger requires that any new features or amendments receive at least 80% support from trusted validators within a two-week window to be activated.
By implementing this follow-up amendment, developers aim to avoid launching a potentially flawed lending system. The lending protocol is set to utilize off-chain underwriting to assess borrower creditworthiness and will incorporate “first-loss capital” to mitigate the impact of defaults, diverging from the more traditional collateral-and-liquidation model typically seen in decentralized finance (DeFi).
