NIP Group Increases Bitcoin Mining Capacity
NIP Group, the parent company of the esports team Ninjas in Pyjamas, has made a significant move in the cryptocurrency sector by acquiring a third batch of Bitcoin miners. This deal, valued at over 247 million Class A ordinary shares, elevates the company's mining capacity to approximately 13.85 EH/s, enabling it to mine around 195 Bitcoin monthly, translating to around $2.8 million at current prices.
CEO Hicham Chahine expressed a strategic decision to invest in Bitcoin mining during a period of market cooling, rather than waiting for a surge in competition. He mentioned that the newly acquired facilities could potentially be repurposed for artificial intelligence applications if they yield better returns than mining. Chahine stated, "Now that this tranche is closed, we're at roughly 13.85 EH/s. That puts us among the largest publicly listed miners in the world."
Future Prospects and Market Challenges
Last year, NIP Group aimed to mine 160 Bitcoin per month, and this latest acquisition boosts that target by an additional 35 Bitcoin. Despite this expansion, the company's stock, NIPG, saw a decline of 40.7%, dropping from $6.74 to $4 since the announcement of the Bitcoin acquisition, reaching an all-time low. During the same timeframe, Bitcoin's value fell by 2% to $79,820.
