JPMorgan has launched its JPM Coin on Ethereum for institutional clients, allowing for quick dollar transfers and positioning itself in the crypto market.
JPMorgan Introduces JPM Coin on Ethereum
JPMorgan Chase has officially launched its JPM Coin on the Ethereum blockchain, allowing institutional clients to transfer dollars quickly and conveniently. This launch follows the initial rollout on Coinbase's Base network in November 2025.
The JPM Coin functions as a deposit token, with each unit representing a dollar held in a JPMorgan account. Clients can redeem these tokens at any time, providing a seamless alternative to traditional bank wires, which typically process only during business hours and can take days to settle.
Only approved counterparties will have access to JPM Coin, distinguishing it from public stablecoins available on exchanges. The bank has indicated that it anticipates usage of the token for payment transactions by crypto firms and as a method for financial institutions to settle trades and secure collateral.
Emma Landriault, the global head of Kinexys Labs at JPMorgan, emphasized the increasing integration of blockchain technology in traditional finance, noting that approximately $50 billion is currently tied up in Ethereum applications. “We’ve clearly been in a year of further convergence between Wall Street and crypto,” she stated.
The token is part of JPMorgan's broader strategy to compete with a recent stablecoin initiative launched by over 100 companies, including major players like Visa and Mastercard. Kinexys, the division managing JPM Coin, has processed over $4 trillion in transactions and handles about $7 billion daily, compared to JPMorgan's total payments business, which averages around $12 trillion daily.
In addition to the Ethereum launch, JPMorgan plans to introduce JPM Coin on the privacy-focused Canton Network and has already issued tokenized money-market funds on Ethereum.
Looking ahead, JPMorgan and other major banks are collaborating to establish a shared 24/7 tokenized deposit network, with plans to roll it out in the first half of 2027.
