Hsin-Ju Chuang Found Dead After Dispute with Hack VC

The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked widespread speculation.

Chuang was found dead on August 24, with officials yet to disclose the cause of her death. Her passing gained attention following a report from Hoodline, which circulated details of the incident.

California Highway Patrol confirmed that her body was located inside her vehicle under severe weather conditions. Chuang was pronounced dead at approximately 9:47 p.m. on the same day, as reported by the coroner, who has since redirected inquiries to the Highway Patrol. As of now, no autopsy results or further information about her death have been made public.

Chuang's death has garnered significant attention on social media within the crypto sector, especially since she had posted on X just a day prior, revealing that she had declined a settlement offer from Hack VC. This settlement would have required her to remain silent regarding her experiences with the firm. In her post, she stated, "I've decided I'd rather take $0 than accept a settlement that requires me to stay silent about what happened to me," and indicated plans to release evidence related to her tenure at Hack VC on August 26.

Chuang had alleged mistreatment during her time at Hack VC, claiming she was compelled to work during a critical medical emergency and faced intimidation while trying to leave the company. However, these allegations remain unverified, and no link has been established between her claims and her death.

In response to the situation, Hack VC issued a statement on August 23, asserting that their understanding of events diverged significantly from Chuang's account. A spokesperson for the firm mentioned that they had not been in contact with her for over 10 months and expressed their lack of knowledge regarding the circumstances of her death. They also emphasized the importance of showing respect to those grieving.

The crypto community has expressed its condolences, with tributes pouring in from founders, developers, and colleagues who remembered Chuang for her impactful work in organizing industry events and supporting emerging projects. Prior to her role at Hack VC, she worked at Stellar and Solana, contributed to the Fhenix project focused on encryption, and founded Dystopia Labs, which fostered developer communities and events. Chuang had announced her position at Hack VC in a March 2025 post on X.
