Germany has embarked on the CHIRON initiative, aimed at developing a robust infrastructure for secure data transmission through quantum key distribution (QKD). This project will establish testing facilities in Berlin and Thuringia, aiming to incorporate quantum communication technology into the current digital framework.
Bundesdruckerei, a state-owned enterprise known for its expertise in secure documentation and digital identification, will be at the forefront of testing quantum-secured access tokens. These tokens will be utilized by users across public sector entities, critical infrastructure, and financial services. The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space is providing funding for this innovative project.
