Germany has launched the CHIRON project to create a scalable infrastructure for secure data transmission using quantum key distribution (QKD). The consortium will set up test sites in Berlin and Thuringia, integrating quantum communications into the existing digital infrastructure.
The German state company Bundesdruckerei, which specializes in secure documents and digital identification, will test quantum-secured access tokens for users in the public sector, critical infrastructure, and financial services. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space of Germany.
