Google Chrome Enhances Autofill Feature
Google has unveiled a new feature for its Chrome browser that allows it to automatically fill out web forms using information retrieved from users' Gmail accounts. This functionality, termed "enhanced autofill," began rolling out on October 28 and is currently available to U.S. users of Chrome who have enabled the Personal Intelligence setting.
The enhanced autofill feature leverages Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, to suggest relevant data, including order numbers, tracking information, and flight bookings, when users encounter forms that require such details. Amanda Lim, a product manager for Chrome, emphasized that the feature aims to streamline the online form-filling experience.
This capability is accessible on desktop, Android, and iOS devices, but it specifically does not extend to sensitive information such as credit card numbers or addresses, which are managed through Chrome's standard autofill system. Users can manage permissions for enhanced autofill through their Chrome settings, ensuring that they retain control over what data is accessed.
