A U.S. court has ruled against xAI in its trade secret lawsuit aimed at OpenAI, with the decision being final and not subject to re-filing. Federal Judge Rita Lin highlighted that xAI did not demonstrate that OpenAI persuaded former employee Xuechen Li to share confidential details regarding the Grok chatbot.
The legal dispute arose from Li's interview presentation, where he mentioned his previous experiences, including work related to reinforcement learning systems and Grok 4's post-training process. Judge Lin pointed out that sharing past work experiences during an interview does not imply an endorsement for the transfer of trade secrets.
This ruling represents Elon Musk's second legal setback with OpenAI within a month, following a jury's dismissal of his separate $150 billion lawsuit in May.
