Bitcoin has climbed above the $65,000 mark, reflecting a nearly 3% increase over the week. This rise comes in light of a weaker U.S. jobs report that has alleviated concerns about potential Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, all while the market anticipates crucial inflation data set to be released on Wednesday.
Alongside Bitcoin, other major cryptocurrencies have also made notable gains. Ether is trading close to $1,919, showing a similar 3% increase this week. BNB has risen by 0.3% to $603, maintaining its upward trend, while Solana has emerged as a strong performer, up 1% for the day and nearly 5% over the week, reaching nearly $77. Tron remains stable at 33 cents.
In contrast, XRP is the only major cryptocurrency in decline, dropping 0.4% to $1.03, marking a 4% decrease over the week. Hyperliquid's HYPE saw a slight decrease of over 1% to $54 but is still up by over 3% weekly, and dogecoin has dipped to below 7 cents.
On the equities front, the MSCI All Country World Index has reported a 0.1% increase, marking its seventh gain in the last eight sessions, with Asian markets rising 0.6% after Friday's disappointing jobs report pushed the S&P 500 to a record high.
Chipmakers have led this rally, with a regional semiconductor index gaining more than 1.5%, buoyed by performance from Taiwan Semiconductor and SK Hynix.
Conversely, oil prices have risen, with Brent crude increasing by 1% to $84.40 per barrel, following a more than 5% gain over the past three sessions, driven by renewed tensions in the Middle East. U.S. Treasury yields have also firmed slightly, with the 10-year yield climbing one basis point to 4.66%, while the dollar has strengthened against most major currencies.
Despite these positive developments, Bitcoin's performance has occurred amidst several challenges within its ecosystem, including a fourth wave of sweeps affecting Coldcard wallets, a critical vulnerability in BTCPay Server that drained merchant Lightning nodes, and a chain split over BIP-110 that resulted in stalled block production over the last ten days.
The upcoming U.S. consumer price report is viewed as a significant test for Bitcoin. While Friday's jobs report has positively influenced Bitcoin's trajectory, a higher inflation reading could reignite concerns for increased interest rates, potentially impacting Bitcoin negatively.
