The catalyst for this selloff was Intel's fourth-quarter revenue forecast, which fell well short of analyst expectations. The company anticipates revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion, with a midpoint of $15.5 billion, which is $1.6 billion lower than analysts' $17.07 billion forecast. Additionally, Intel projects adjusted earnings per share of $0.25, far below the anticipated $0.43.
Despite posting solid third-quarter results—revenue rose 21% year-over-year to $16.5 billion and adjusted earnings per share hit $0.52—investors are focused on future performance. The Data Center and AI division was a standout, generating $7.3 billion in revenue, a 78% increase from the previous year, and contributing significantly to the company's overall performance.
