The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is set to establish an experimental group aimed at exploring the use of quantum computing within the financial sector. The initial project will focus on assessing whether quantum machine learning can effectively identify money laundering and fraud activities. To facilitate the tests, the FCA will provide a synthetic dataset designed to simulate real financial transactions.
The regulator is inviting financial firms, quantum technology developers, and research labs to participate in this initiative, with the group expected to commence its work in the first quarter of 2027.
