AI chip developer Tenstorrent has secured $1.5 billion in funding, achieving a valuation of $6.2 billion, according to Bloomberg. Founded in 2016 by former AMD engineers, the startup is led by Jim Keller, who played a key role in developing the Zen processor architecture.
Tenstorrent focuses on creating accelerators for AI workloads and processors based on the open RISC-V architecture, positioning itself as a competitor to Nvidia and other major players in the market. The new capital will enable the company to scale up production and enhance its technology for data centers.
Previously, both Intel and Qualcomm expressed interest in acquiring Tenstorrent.
