Latvia is planning to enable its citizens to pay taxes using cryptocurrency starting in 2027, as reported by CoinDesk. This initiative has received approval from the Ministry of Finance, according to Didzis Dejus, an advisor to the Prime Minister. However, technical aspects with the payment provider are still being finalized, and the list of acceptable cryptocurrencies has yet to be determined. In parallel, the Latvian parliament has approved changes to the taxation of digital assets. Under the new regulations, owners of investment accounts will only be taxed when their withdrawals exceed initial investments, rather than being taxed on each transaction. Additionally, a voluntary declaration of cryptocurrency holdings will be introduced in 2027, requiring a 10% tax on their market value as of the end of 2026.
