Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Buying

Strategy has paused its Bitcoin purchases for the first time since mid-September, opting instead to allocate $204.9 million towards a buyback of its preferred stock, STRC. This decision comes as the firm reported that it did not sell any shares through its at-the-market offering program during the week of October 19 to 25, as documented in an SEC filing.

Currently, Strategy retains a significant Bitcoin reserve of 848,517 BTC, which it acquired at an average cost of $75,446 per coin, totaling approximately $64.02 billion. Notably, the firm's cash reserves decreased to $242.4 million from $447.3 million in the previous week.

"Strategy has repurchased $205M of $STRC. As of 10/25/26, we hold 848,517 $BTC and $5.1B of USD Assets," tweeted Strategy.

STRC Buyback Details

The recent buyback involved purchasing 2,068,459 shares, marking an increase from the $193.1 million spent the prior week. This expenditure was entirely funded from its cash reserves, which are designated for various purposes including Bitcoin acquisitions. The company still has $956.8 million available under its $3 billion preferred stock buyback program, recently raised from $2 billion.

Impact of MSCI Rules

This operational pause comes amid concerns regarding Strategy's potential removal from MSCI's equity indexes. A new MSCI rule, finalized on October 15, categorizes companies heavily reliant on a single asset as non-operating, disqualifying them from inclusion in its Global Investable Market Indexes after November 30. Strategy's chairman, Michael Saylor, has criticized this rule as discriminatory, urging MSCI to reconsider its stance.
