Over 93.5% of Starknet voters have expressed support for exploring the possibility of transforming the Ethereum-based L2 network into an independent L1 blockchain with post-quantum security. The vote included participation from STRK token holders across more than 2,800 wallets.
StarkWare, the developer behind Starknet, is set to release a draft technical document in November. However, the transition has not yet been approved and will require new proposals and separate votes.
This initiative stems from concerns that reliance on Ethereum limits Starknet's ability to independently implement quantum threat protections. While Ethereum aims to complete its upgrade by December 2029, StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson has indicated a target year of 2027 for Starknet's transition.
