Polygon Expands Stablecoin Payment Services to Solana Network

Overview

  • Polygon Labs has launched its Open Money Stack on the Solana network.
  • This integration simplifies crypto payments by consolidating multiple providers into a single connection.
  • The initiative aligns with Solana's increasing popularity in payment processing.

Polygon Labs has introduced its stablecoin payment infrastructure, known as the Open Money Stack, to the Solana blockchain. This development allows businesses operating on Solana to efficiently manage payments by connecting directly to bank accounts, facilitating cross-chain crypto transfers, and executing payouts to clients and suppliers globally.

The Open Money Stack is designed to streamline the complex process of crypto payments, which often involves multiple providers for converting bank funds into crypto and vice versa. By providing a single technical connection and commercial relationship, Polygon simplifies the payment experience for businesses.

With this new offering, Solana businesses can integrate various funding options, including bank transfers, credit card payments, cash, and cryptocurrency. They can also set up embedded wallets and manage funds across multiple networks like Polygon, Ethereum, and Tron. For example, a remittance service could convert dollars to USDC on Solana and facilitate payouts to a bank account.

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder and CEO of the Polygon Foundation, emphasized the common challenge faced by banks and fintech companies in connecting to existing payment systems. He stated that the addition of Solana enables more businesses to operate on their preferred networks.

Kira, a cross-border payments firm, is one of the initial adopters of this integration, using it to assist clients in converting stablecoin transfers into dollars for international payments.

This expansion underscores Solana's increasing significance in the payments sector, having recorded over $5 trillion in stablecoin transactions this year, according to the Solana Foundation. Recent advancements on the Solana network include the implementation of an institutional settlement standard in collaboration with J.P. Morgan and the launch of its Alpenglow upgrade. For Polygon, this move is part of a larger strategy to enhance its payment capabilities, following its acquisition of the crypto-cash company Coinme.
