The U.S. government's decision regarding Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models may not solely stem from alleged security bypasses, according to TechCrunch. The publication notes that a letter from the Department of Commerce referenced an unnamed national security threat, while Axios described the situation as a communication conflict between the company and the Trump administration.
Kathy Mussuritis, founder of Luta Security, stated that the scenario she examined should not have led to export restrictions. Previously, Anthropic disabled Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all users following a U.S. directive that barred access to the models for foreign nationals both inside and outside the country.
