The French National Gaming Authority has mandated internet service providers to block access to Polymarket, as prediction markets in the country are classified as illegal gambling. Geo-blocking of transactions has been in effect since 2024, but users have found ways to bypass it: in June, the platform attracted over 205,000 unique French visitors. The regulator also cited concerns over potential manipulation of outcomes—Paris prosecutors have been investigating since May due to suspicions of hacking weather sensors for betting purposes. Polymarket is now geo-blocked in 36 jurisdictions, including Singapore, Poland, Ukraine, and Brazil.
