Overview

  • Apple's job listing for a strategy role emphasizes knowledge of stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and blockchain.
  • Google Cloud is looking for a Web3 architect to collaborate with various financial entities across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Neither company has announced any new stablecoin or blockchain products in their listings.

As the adoption of tokenized assets grows among financial institutions, both Apple and Google are on the lookout for top talent with expertise in stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and blockchain technology, as indicated by their recent job postings.

Apple is searching for a strategist based in New York to influence the development of Apple Pay products, with an emphasis on blockchain knowledge as a desirable qualification. Concurrently, Google Cloud is seeking a technical leader to provide guidance to clients in the digital asset space throughout the Asia-Pacific region and to help shape its Web3 product strategy.

This role at Apple is intended to support the Apple Card and Apple Cash initiatives, which encompass credit cards, peer-to-peer transfers, and stored value services, among other consumer financial offerings. Responsibilities include assessing new product frameworks, business models, partnerships, and growth prospects within Apple’s Wallets, Payments, and Commerce divisions.

“This role requires a strategic thinker who can blend analytical rigor with a strong business sense, formulate clear and compelling recommendations, and drive projects forward in a fast-paced, collaborative environment,” the company stated in the job description.

Apple specifies that applicants should have familiarity with “stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and blockchain technology,” along with experience in peer-to-peer payment systems or credit cards and knowledge of payment frameworks outside the U.S.

Stablecoins, such as Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC, are digital tokens typically pegged to fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar.

However, the job listing does not imply that Apple plans to integrate these technologies into Apple Pay, Apple Cash, or Apple Card.

On the other hand, Google is in search of an Industry Principal Architect for Web3, based in Hong Kong.

The architect will provide counsel to Google Cloud customers, which include blockchain foundations, institutional exchanges, digital asset custodians, and financial institutions involved in tokenizing physical assets, as well as developers of decentralized applications.

“By identifying common architectural friction points across the industry, you will author reusable reference architectures, influence Google's Web3 product roadmap, and establish Google Cloud as the cloud of choice for Web3 builders and institutional adopters,” Google noted in the listing.

While Apple is just beginning to explore the stablecoin sector, Google has already been active in the blockchain space, with plans for the Google Cloud Universal Ledger, a layer-1 network designed for wholesale payments and asset tokenization. Google is also among the supporters of the Open USD stablecoin initiative, alongside major players like Coinbase, Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, and Shopify.

Other companies in the payment and technology sectors are also adopting stablecoins for transaction settlements. Visa recently reported that its stablecoin settlement volume has surpassed an annualized rate of $20 billion. Similarly, Mastercard has expanded its support for stablecoin settlements, including USDC and Ripple's RLUSD.
