A recent investigation by NowSecure has uncovered that an astounding 96.9% of the 136,711 mobile applications analyzed for iOS and Android do not incorporate any form of post-quantum cryptography. Alarmingly, more than 3,100 of these apps are still utilizing outdated encryption methods such as DES and RC4. The researchers cautioned that mobile applications could pose a significant vulnerability as the industry moves towards quantum-resistant security, given that these apps handle sensitive data including account logins, payments, and encrypted communications, often relying on cryptographic components hidden within third-party libraries.
