Sweden's Government Offices Implement AI Tool Restrictions
Beginning October 26, Sweden's Government Offices will prohibit the use of ChatGPT and Claude on employee computers, directing civil servants to utilize Microsoft Copilot as the sole permitted AI tool. This decision stems from concerns regarding information security, as stated by Mikael Wettercrantz, the director of digitalization at the Government Offices.
Wettercrantz highlighted the risks associated with using AI services that lack formal contracts, which could compromise sensitive information. He noted past incidents of improper use of open AI services, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding data processed by these tools.
Microsoft Copilot has been approved following a thorough security review, whereas no such evaluation was conducted for ChatGPT or Claude. While access to these blocked tools will be restricted, some employees may still use them through an internal AI platform, though the Government Offices have not disclosed the extent of this access.
