Developers who left the Electric Coin Company (ECC) have announced the creation of the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL).

Hi. It's a new day for Zcash!

The entire former ECC team is now Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), and we are rebranding the Zashi wallet to Zodl.

You don't need to do a thing, the app will rebrand with the next update.

The flagship Zashi wallet is now called Zodl. According to the team, this rebranding will not affect user experience and will require no action from customers. They won’t need to download a new app, change their seed phrase, or transfer funds.

“Just continue using Zashi as usual. The app will automatically update to Zodl with the next version. In the coming days, the name Zashi will gradually be replaced by Zodl across all official channels, including support Discord,” the developers stated.

In January, the entire ECC team left the company amid internal conflict. Former CEO Josh Swihart noted that most board members of the Bootstrap nonprofit were acting contrary to the mission of private cryptocurrency.

The developers explained that this change was necessary for the further evolution of the protocol and the implementation of ZEC without reliance on the development fund.

“The engineers and product specialists who have developed Zcash for years remain on board and continue to create new solutions,” ZODL emphasized.

Some users welcomed the rebranding, comparing the new name to the popular term HODL within the community. Others criticized it for being difficult to pronounce.

Following the announcement, the price of ZEC rose by 2.4% over the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, the coin is trading around $287 with a market capitalization of $4.7 billion.

Notably, Barry Silbert, founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group, predicted a shift in focus from Bitcoin towards Zcash.
