Zcash Blockchain Experiences Four-Hour Block Production Halt

Zcash Network Experiences Significant Downtime

The Zcash blockchain encountered a prolonged disruption on June 3, 2026, ceasing block production for over four hours. This halt prevented the confirmation of any transactions, causing concern among users of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency.

The last block, numbered 3,364,601, was recorded at 5:27 AM UTC, marking a stark deviation from the network's typical performance, which generates a new block approximately every 75 seconds.

During this outage, the blockchain was unable to process any new transactions, effectively halting activity on the network for a notable period. Data from Zcash block explorers confirms that no additional blocks were produced until after the four-hour mark had passed.

Despite this technical glitch, Zcash's native cryptocurrency, ZEC, has shown resilience, rising by 8% over the past week and 46% over the last month, according to CoinDesk data. This increase stands in contrast to the broader market trend, which has seen declines.

The incident highlights the potential vulnerabilities that even well-established digital currencies can face. As of now, Zcash has not issued any official statement regarding the disruption.
