  • Vlad Tenev's X account was hacked on Thursday, promoting a fraudulent memecoin called Vladhood ($VLAD) as the “official mascot” of Robinhood.
  • The misleading post claimed the token would appear on the Robinhood app and provided a blockchain wallet address before it was taken down.
  • This incident coincides with Robinhood’s newly launched blockchain network, which has quickly gathered over $700 million in assets and sparked significant memecoin trading.
  • On Thursday, the X account of Robinhood's CEO Vlad Tenev was breached, and it was used to endorse a fraudulent memecoin amid a surge in trading on the company’s recently introduced blockchain network.

The deleted post presented Vladhood ($VLAD) as the "official mascot" of Robinhood Chain, falsely asserting its imminent availability on the Robinhood app. It included a blockchain wallet address and framed the token as part of the company's initiatives surrounding Robinhood Chain.

"Does Robinhood love memes? The answer is yes," the post stated.

Robinhood subsequently verified that Tenev's account had indeed been hacked.

"Heads up: Our CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was compromised and posted a fake promotion for a meme coin," the company announced via its communications account on X. "We are collaborating with X to regain access, and the post has been removed."

This breach occurred as Robinhood's newly launched blockchain has emerged as a center for speculative trading.

Since its launch earlier this month, the network has attracted over $700 million in assets, including stablecoins, tokenized stocks, and memecoins, as reported by a Dune dashboard created by Entropy Advisors. The blockchain has also surpassed 300,000 daily active addresses and processed approximately 10 million transactions in a single day, according to the dashboard's findings.

This surge in activity has also led to a proliferation of new memecoins trying to take advantage of the increasing interest in the chain.
