Vlad Tenev's X Account Compromised to Advertise Fake Token Amid Memecoin Surge

Vlad Tenev's X account was hacked to advertise the fraudulent token $VLAD.

On Thursday, Vlad Tenev, CEO of Robinhood, fell victim to a security breach when his X account was hacked. The compromised account was used to promote a fake memecoin named Vladhood ($VLAD), misleadingly presented as the official mascot of Robinhood.

The fraudulent post falsely claimed that $VLAD would soon be available on the Robinhood app and included a blockchain wallet address. This disinformation coincided with a spike in trading activity on Robinhood’s newly launched blockchain network, which has already attracted over $700 million in assets.

Robinhood confirmed the hack through its official communication channels, stating, "Our CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was compromised and posted a fake promotion for a meme coin; we are working with X to regain access." The suspicious post has since been removed.

Following its launch, the blockchain network has seen rapid growth, surpassing 300,000 daily active addresses and facilitating around 10 million transactions in a single day. This surge has spurred the emergence of numerous new memecoins aiming to capitalize on the increasing interest surrounding Robinhood’s blockchain efforts.
