Utah's Attorney General Derek Brown has initiated legal action against Kalshi, its affiliated entities, and two trading firms, Susquehanna. Brown alleges that since 2024, the platform has facilitated illegal betting activities within the state.
The lawsuit seeks to compel the defendants to return an estimated $30–60 million in profits derived from purportedly unlawful event contracts and to prohibit markets related to sports, elections, politics, and culture within Utah. Kalshi has responded by asserting that it operates as a federally regulated derivatives exchange and maintains that the new lawsuit does not affect ongoing legal proceedings.
