- They also terminated a separate agreement for Crypto.com to manage certain planned Yorkville America ETFs.
- This decision follows Trump Media's aggressive foray into crypto in 2025, during which it acquired $105 million in CRO and sought to launch various digital asset products.
Trump Media (DJT) is retracting its crypto initiatives, including the cancellation of a proposal to create a publicly traded company for accumulating CRO tokens, which was introduced at the peak of last year's digital asset boom.
The decision to end the Trump Media Group CRO Strategy was made jointly by Trump Media, Crypto.com, and special purpose acquisition company Yorkville Acquisition, with the companies stating that this was due to "prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities."
This venture was intended to establish a publicly traded entity focused on acquiring the native token of Cronos, CRO$0.05093, and generating additional returns through staking. In September 2025, Trump Media had purchased $105 million worth of CRO as part of a broader collaboration with Crypto.com that aimed to integrate token rewards into its offerings.
Following the announcement, CRO experienced a decline of up to 5%.
Additionally, the companies are stepping away from a separate collaboration where Crypto.com was set to manage some planned exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from Yorkville America. Trump Media is also reducing its plans to integrate Crypto.com-powered prediction markets into Truth Social, according to a report from Axios.
This shift in strategy occurs as the digital asset treasury market becomes oversaturated, according to Interim CEO Kevin McGurn, leading the company to redirect its focus towards media, data licensing, and finalizing its proposed merger with TAE Technologies, a fusion energy firm. McGurn expressed hopes that the merger will be completed by the end of 2026.
The retreat aligns with the stalled progress of the CLARITY Act in Washington, which has sparked discussions regarding ethical considerations and potential conflicts of interest related to President Donald Trump and his family's crypto business activities.
As of the end of the second quarter, Trump Media reported holding 9,542 bitcoins BTC$64,906.80. However, the company transferred 2,628 BTC, valued at approximately $165 million, to addresses linked with Crypto.com earlier this week.
