Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, has ordered an end to the state's financial support for Flock Safety cameras, which utilize artificial intelligence to identify vehicle license plates and characteristics. An investigation by The Texas Tribune revealed that since 2023, authorities have assisted in the installation of at least 3,200 of these devices, allocating a minimum of $30 million towards the expansion of this network.
This decision follows complaints regarding surveillance and instances of misuse of the system by law enforcement officials.
