Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the state will cease funding for Flock Safety cameras, which are designed to use artificial intelligence for vehicle license plate recognition. An investigation by The Texas Tribune found that since the start of 2023, at least 3,200 of these cameras have been installed with over $30 million in state funds allocated to their deployment.
This move comes in response to growing concerns about privacy and reports of the system being misused by law enforcement agencies.
