  • Tether announced a net operating profit of $1.5 billion for the second quarter of 2026, even as its reserve buffer decreased to $4.11 billion.
  • The firm expanded its gold holdings to around 146.2 metric tons and its bitcoin reserves to 98,933 BTC.

Tether reported a net operating profit of $1.5 billion for the second quarter of 2026, largely attributed to returns from its U.S. Treasury and repurchase agreement investments.

The issuer of the USDT stablecoin, the largest of its kind, disclosed assets totaling $187.75 billion against liabilities of $183.64 billion as of June 30, resulting in $4.11 billion in excess reserves, according to a BDO attestation released on Friday. This marks a reduction from over $8.23 billion just three months prior.

The report for the second quarter indicates that Tether increased its physical gold reserves by 14 tons, raising the total to approximately 146.2 metric tons, up from 132.2 tons. However, the valuation of these gold holdings decreased from $19.84 billion to $18.84 billion due to a 15% drop in gold prices, now exceeding $4,000 per ounce.

The company also augmented its bitcoin reserves by about 1,796 coins, bringing the total to 98,933 BTC. The value of these bitcoin holdings fell from $6.62 billion to $5.80 billion as the bitcoin price reported dropped from $68,200 to $58,600 during the quarter.

Additionally, Tether's issuance of USDT rose by approximately $446 million, reaching a total of $184.6 billion during the quarter.
