"This summer will mark the largest launch of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history. Instant zero-fee crypto transactions for over a billion users are about to become a reality," Durov stated.
Currently, Telegram features Wallet, a product from the third-party company The Open Platform (TOP), which has over 150 million registered users. By default, it operates in a custodial mode.
Andrey Rogozov, founder and CEO of TOP, explained to ForkLog that the two products do not compete but complement each other. He noted that Wallet in Telegram will remain a separate multi-chain product with a broader range of features, including trading, perpetual contracts, tokenized assets, and an Earn tool.
"[The new] wallet is a simple way to start using cryptocurrency. Wallet is designed for those who need more extensive options for trading, investing, and managing assets," Rogozov remarked.
Following the announcement, the price of Gram rose by 4.4% to $1.52, reaching a peak of $1.58 at one point.

It is worth noting that in June, the community of The Open Network voted to rename Toncoin to Gram. According to Durov, the rebranding is the fourth step in a seven-part initiative called Make TON Great Again. The network's name remains unchanged.
