Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has unveiled a new non-custodial crypto wallet specifically designed for Gram, previously known as Toncoin. This wallet will be integrated into all versions of the Telegram app, potentially reaching over a billion users.
"This summer will see the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history. Instant zero-fee crypto transactions for over a billion users are about to become reality," Durov announced on social media.
Currently, Telegram offers a custodial wallet service provided by The Open Platform (TOP), which has amassed over 150 million registered users. Andrey Rogozov, CEO of TOP, clarified that the existing Wallet and the new non-custodial wallet will coexist, with each serving different user needs. The current Wallet will continue to provide a wider array of features including trading and managing various digital assets.
"[The new] wallet is a straightforward way to start using cryptocurrency. Wallet is tailored for users seeking extensive trading and investment options," Rogozov noted.
In the wake of this announcement, the price of Gram surged by 4.4%, reaching a high of $1.58. However, Durov has not provided specific details regarding the launch date, the assets that will be supported, or how users will manage their wallets.
