The Sui blockchain team has announced the adoption of two NIST-approved post-quantum signature schemes: ML-DSA-65 (FIPS 204) will serve as the native protocol for standard accounts, while SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s (FIPS 205) will be utilized within Move smart contracts for large asset storage.

This transition will be optional: keys will be derived from the existing seed phrase, allowing current accounts to replace their authorization key with a post-quantum version without changing their address or assets. Plans are in place to launch quantum-resistant storage on the main network by the end of 2026, with ML-DSA-65 support in the testnet expected around the same time, and native account authentication in the mainnet anticipated in the first quarter of 2027.
