This latest purchase surpasses the previous record of 847,363 BTC, which was noted on June 22, according to BitcoinTreasuries. The company had previously sold some Bitcoin over the summer before resuming its buying activities in August.

The funding for this purchase came from the proceeds of selling its MSTR common stock through an at-the-market offering. During that week, the company sold 1.47 million shares of MSTR, raising $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of this amount, $142.7 million was allocated for Bitcoin acquisitions, while $103.5 million was directed toward repurchasing STRC preferred stock.

Repurchase of STRC Stock

In addition to acquiring Bitcoin, Strategy repurchased 1.53 million shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, known as STRC, for $151.7 million. The company has invested hundreds of millions into buying back STRC, taking advantage of its trading price being below the stated value. Current filings indicate that there is still $723.5 million available for repurchases under its digital credit securities program.

Strategy has previously characterized the repurchase of STRC as part of its overarching capital allocation strategy. Recently, the firm proposed that preferred stock dividends, including those for STRF, STRC, SREK, and STRD, accrue daily to reduce volatility.

The latest acquisitions come on the heels of a summer period during which Strategy sold Bitcoin to bolster its cash reserves. The company offloaded 6,948 BTC from May to August before starting to replenish its holdings.

USD Asset Holdings of $6.02 Billion

As of September 27, Strategy also reported having $6.02 billion in USD assets. This figure is comprised of a $5.02 billion USD Reserve and $1 billion in USD Cash, as outlined in the 8-K filing. The USD Reserve is a dedicated fund set aside for dividends on preferred stock and interest on debt, while the USD Cash is a separate reserve established last month for potential Bitcoin purchases and other capital management needs.

During the most recent week, Strategy utilized $48.1 million of its USD Cash to fund the repurchase of STRC shares and $22.1 million from its USD Reserve to cover preferred stock dividends. This cash reserve provides the company with additional capital as it navigates its Bitcoin investments, preferred stock obligations, and common stock issuances.

The firm has indicated that its capital framework permits it to liquidate up to $1.25 billion in Bitcoin to support its USD Reserve, preferred stock dividends, interest expenses, and repurchases of MSTR or its preferred securities. However, for the time being, the most recent disclosures show Strategy is focused on buying Bitcoin rather than selling it, marking a second consecutive week of acquisitions. With 847,666 BTC now on its balance sheet, the company has achieved a historic high in its Bitcoin holdings.
