StepFun Introduces AI-Centric Smartphone
Chinese startup StepFun has launched the STEPX Neo, a smartphone designed around an AI agent named Amoo, rather than conventional apps. The device was unveiled on October 13 and is priced at 3,999 yuan (approximately $560). Pre-orders began on major platforms such as JD.com, Tmall, and Douyin, with the first sales event scheduled for October 16.
Revolutionizing Smartphone Interaction
The STEPX Neo operates on StepFun's proprietary Step AOS 1.0 system, which integrates Amoo directly into the operating system. This allows users to interact with the phone using natural language commands. For example, rather than navigating through a ride-hailing app, users can simply tell Amoo their destination, and the AI takes care of the rest.
Partnerships and Ecosystem
StepFun has secured partnerships with nearly 100 companies, including Alipay and Tencent, enhancing the functionality of Amoo across various services. Unlike previous AI assistants that relied on simulated clicks, Amoo can directly interface with these platforms to facilitate tasks such as payments and travel bookings.
