The police in Gangwon Province, South Korea, have filed charges against 26 users of the prediction platform Polymarket for illegal gambling activities. According to Asia Business Daily, 18 of these cases have already been forwarded to the prosecutor's office. Investigators allege that the individuals collectively wagered approximately 17.6 billion won (around $12.7 million), with the largest bet from a single participant reaching 5.7 billion won (approximately $4.1 million). Authorities classify the "yes/no" bets on Polymarket contracts as participation in unlawful gambling since the users do not influence the outcomes. The accused refer to the platform as a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange.
