Stablecoin payments firm dtcpay announced today that it has completed a $25 million Series A funding round, with a notable investment from Japan's SBI Group.
The funding round, which began earlier this year with support from Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, saw SBI join through its SBI Ventures Asset and the SBI-NTU-Kyobo Digital Innovation Fund. Existing investors Genedant Capital and Kwee Liong Tek also continued their support.
Dtcpay plays a vital role in the crypto ecosystem by providing services such as digital asset conversion, custody, and a Visa-linked card that allows users to spend stablecoins like traditional currency. The company holds a Major Payment Institution license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and operates in Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, and North America.
SBI's participation in this funding round is seen as a strategic move to enhance regulated connections between Japanese capital and Southeast Asian markets. Stablecoins offer a faster alternative to conventional correspondent banking, provided that the intermediary adheres to strict regulatory requirements.
According to Alice Liu, founder and CEO of dtcpay, "We did not raise this round to sustain what we have built. We raised it to fundamentally change how money moves across borders."
This investment aligns with SBI's broader strategy, as the group has consistently invested in stablecoin banking and digital asset infrastructure. Recently, SBI acquired Singapore's Coinhako, increased its stake in Ripple, and became a founding validator for Circle's Arc network.
Dtcpay indicated that the $25 million raised will be allocated towards developing an enterprise portal, enhancing its app, and expanding its merchant network, although specifics regarding the company's valuation, revenue, and precise fund allocation were not disclosed.
