Nvidia, Naver, and Brookfield have announced an ambitious expansion of their AI infrastructure in South Korea. The partners aim to boost the capacity of the AI Factory at the GAK Sejong data center from 55 MW to 200 MW by 2028.

In the long term, they plan to deploy a gigawatt-scale infrastructure to train and roll out new AI models.

The project involves strategic investments totaling up to $10 billion, including:

  • Nvidia is set to invest $1 billion;
  • Brookfield will provide up to $9 billion in project financing;
  • Naver will cover the remaining capital.

The new computing complex will be built on the NVIDIA DSX platform, utilizing Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, and will cater to both South Korean and American AI firms.

In June, Naver had already reported an expansion of GAK Sejong to 55 MW. This new plan more than triples the previously announced scale.

Reuters: Samsung and SK Group Engage in $950 Billion AI Deals

South Korea’s President Lee Jae-Myung announced new AI initiatives worth $950 billion involving Samsung Electronics, SK Group, and American tech companies at the AI Summit in San Francisco, as reported by Reuters.

According to the agency, SK Group has signed agreements totaling $750 billion. The largest portion comprises a partnership between SK Hynix and Nvidia exceeding $500 billion, aimed at building extensive AI data centers and supplying next-generation memory.

SK Telecom plans to launch a 2 GW data center using Vera Rubin and HBM4 chips from SK Hynix by 2027.

Samsung Electronics has signed a memorandum with Broadcom for up to $200 billion, agreeing to collaborate in memory, contract chip manufacturing, and advanced packaging segments. Additionally, Samsung will participate in developing Broadcom's next-generation AI accelerator based on its HBM memory and provide technology processes under 2 nm along with packaging solutions.

It is noteworthy that in July, former OpenAI researcher Daniel Kokotailo suggested pausing the AI race until 2040 due to existential threats to humanity.
