Nvidia has reached an agreement to purchase the AI developer platform Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, as announced by CEO Jensen Huang.

The transaction amount was detailed in a separate press release. Following the acquisition, Hugging Face will continue to operate as an open platform.
Nvidia emphasized that developers will not be forced to adopt Nvidia's infrastructure.
“Users will be able to choose the models, frameworks, cloud services, and service providers they need, as well as the computing platforms. Utilizing Nvidia's computing resources will not be a requirement for creating or deploying applications through Hugging Face,” the announcement stated.
The AI platform will maintain support for models from various developers, including open weights. Nvidia believes that its infrastructure and engineering resources will enhance the platform's reliability and security, as well as improve model evaluation, inference, and deployment.
According to Nvidia, Hugging Face is utilized by over 18 million developers, researchers, and creators, featuring more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications. Over 200,000 companies use the service for searching, evaluating, customizing, and deploying AI.
Nvidia reminded that it has been investing in AI and related platforms for many years, positioning itself as the “largest provider of open models and data for Hugging Face,” having published over 500 models and 250 datasets under its brand.
Additionally, in August, Nvidia expanded its partnership with Amazon Web Services, with plans to deploy an additional two million graphics processors in AWS cloud infrastructure by 2027-2028.
