The attacker tricked Butter Bridge V3.1 (OmniServiceProxy) into minting approximately 1 quadrillion MAPO—about 4.8 million times the legitimate supply of around 208 million—directly to a brand-new externally owned account (EOA).

The value of MAPO fell to $0.00009 within hours, as the issuance scale exceeded the market supply by tens of thousands of times. As of this writing, prices have recovered to $0.002.
The hacker managed to sell around a billion tokens through Uniswap liquidity pools, netting 52 ETH (approximately $110,000). Blockaid experts reported that nearly a trillion MAPO tokens remain in the hacker's wallet, posing a liquidity threat on other exchanges.
The attack was technically feasible due to a flaw in the message verification logic. The hacker sent a fake request for a transaction replay, which the bridge mistakenly recognized as valid. The project's keys were not compromised.
The Map Protocol team has halted the mainnet and is preparing to migrate to a new contract. Developers promised to take a snapshot of user balances for distributing new assets, while tokens in the hacker's addresses will be nullified.
MAP Protocol has suspended the conversion service between MAPO tokens on the original ERC20 contract address 0x66d79b8f60ec93bfce0b56f5ac14a2714e509a99 across the BSC and Ethereum networks and MAPO on the MAP Protocol mainnet. All relevant exchanges have also been notified to…

Investigation is expected to conclude within the next 12 hours. Pending swaps will be processed once it is safe to resume.
To reiterate: user funds are not at risk, and every affected swap will be processed in full once it is safe to resume. https://t.co/UEqn6bZ2wW
Map Protocol positions itself as a compatibility layer for asset exchanges between Bitcoin and the Ethereum, BNB Chain, TRON, and Solana networks.
It is worth noting that April saw a record number of hacks in the crypto industry, with over 20 incidents resulting in damages of $651 million.
In May, hacker attacks targeted Ekubo, TrustedVolumes, THORChain, Verus, and Echo.
