Google has removed its AI-powered image generator, Nano Banana, from Google Earth just one day after it was introduced. The company cited violations of service rules by users who shared AI-generated images.
This tool enabled users to enhance any location or event on the map based on text prompts. Among the misleading images that circulated online were fake photographs of a crater caused by an explosion in Los Angeles and a flooded U.S. Capitol. Open data researcher Henk van Ess noted that his prompts—such as creating images of refugees at the Mexico border or a nuclear site in Iran—were not blocked by the system.
