Goldman Sachs has changed its outlook and now believes the Federal Reserve will implement another increase in its benchmark interest rate in October, a significant shift from its previous prediction of a hike in September followed by a pause.
This adjustment follows the Federal Reserve's recent decision to raise rates by 25 basis points, setting the target range at 3.75%–4.00%. The updated projections from the Fed indicate that a significant majority of its policymakers expect at least one more hike this year.
During the press conference after the meeting, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized a hawkish view, stating that inflation remains "too high" and that the recent hike only mitigated some accommodation, suggesting that the current policy is still not sufficiently restrictive and further rate increases may be forthcoming.
As of now, market participants are estimating a slightly more than 50% probability of a subsequent 25 basis point rate increase in October, based on data from the CME’s FedWatch tool.
Bitcoin is currently trading around $76,260, reflecting a modest increase of 0.5% over the past 24 hours.
