Elon Musk's X appoints Benji Taylor as chief designer ahead of X Money launch.
Benji Taylor has been appointed as the chief designer for Elon Musk's social media platform X, signaling a strategic move as the company gears up for the launch of its payment system, X Money.
"I’m honored to be joining X to lead design. I believe this is the most important platform in the world, and I can’t think of a more exciting place to help shape the future," Taylor stated on Twitter.
Before joining X, Taylor founded Los Feliz Engineering, a studio behind the Family wallet, which caught the attention of the Aave protocol, leading to his role as Chief Product Officer after its acquisition in 2023. He later took on the head of design position at the Base network from Coinbase.
Nikita Bier, product head at X, expressed his enthusiasm for Taylor's capabilities, recalling how he invested in Taylor's app six years ago, labeling it as one of the finest designs he had encountered. Bier noted that after considerable effort, they were finally able to recruit Taylor to strengthen their design team.
"After six months of persuasion, we are finally coming together to build the best design team in the industry," Bier remarked.
As Taylor steps into his new role, X is preparing to release X Money in April, currently in internal beta testing. This forthcoming feature is expected to serve as a central hub for various financial transactions.
X Money will offer functionalities such as peer-to-peer fiat transfers, high-yield savings accounts, and cryptocurrency integration via smart cashtags, allowing users to trade assets directly from their feeds. In February, Bier highlighted the platform's intent to support cryptocurrency while maintaining a focus on providing tools for financial data without acting as a broker.
"I genuinely want crypto to proliferate on X, but applications that create incentives to spam, raid, and harass random users are not the way," Bier shared in a tweet.
Previously, Musk had announced the launch of the encryption-enabled XChat messenger in June 2025, a feature that received mixed feedback from users.
