(CoinDesk Data)SummaryShow- Dogecoin topped the major cryptocurrencies with a daily increase of nearly 3%, while Bitcoin was the only top token to decline over the day and the week.
- Asian stock markets surged following strong semiconductor earnings, with Korea's Kospi soaring by 4.6%, boosted by gains in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
- Market participants are closely watching the upcoming U.S. CPI report and tensions in the Middle East, as lower inflation and a potential Federal Reserve pivot could trigger a relief rally in risk assets, despite rising oil prices posing inflation risks.
On Wednesday, Dogecoin led the market with a rise of nearly 3%, bringing its price to just above 7 cents, while Bitcoin dropped to around $63,700, marking it as the sole major cryptocurrency to decline on both daily and weekly metrics.
Following Dogecoin, BNB saw a 2% increase, reaching $614, and has gained nearly 2% over the past week. Tron climbed close to 1% to nearly 34 cents, with a weekly increase exceeding 2%. XRP rose slightly over half a percent to just above $1, although it is down 5% for the week, marking the worst performance among major cryptocurrencies. Both Solana and Ethereum experienced slight increases, with prices of $76 and $1,890 respectively; Solana has risen by 3% over the week.
Hyperliquid's HYPE was the only major cryptocurrency to decline, dropping over 1% to $54 and seeing a 3% decrease this week.
In contrast, equity markets rallied, driven by strong earnings. Korea's Kospi jumped by 4.6%, with both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix increasing around 7% due to positive shareholder return expectations, while MSCI's Asia Pacific index rose nearly 1% on semiconductor strength.
CoreWeave surged by 16% in after-hours trading due to better-than-expected sales growth, and Super Micro Computer rose nearly 8% on a revenue forecast that exceeded estimates, positively impacting Nasdaq 100 futures.
Oil prices continued to rise, with Brent crude increasing over 1% to $90 per barrel, marking six consecutive sessions of gains, the longest streak since April, as traders remain skeptical about a potential deal in the Middle East.
Jeff Mei, COO at BTSE, noted that the week's trajectory hinges on the inflation report and the potential agreement between Iran and the U.S. regarding the Strait of Hormuz. "Last week's U.S. job numbers were weak, reinforcing expectations for lower inflation, which could solidify predictions for Federal Reserve rate cuts by year-end, enhancing liquidity and benefiting risk assets like Bitcoin," Mei stated. He added, "Traders should be cautious of any hawkish responses from Federal Reserve representatives, but a relief rally could occur if this week's CPI data comes in lower than anticipated."
The inflation figures for July are set to be released at 8:30 a.m. ET, with rising oil prices directly influencing these numbers.
