  • Coinbase has made it easier for corporate clients to accept payments from AI agents.
  • New trading views are available for Coinbase users.
  • Developers can access a packaged infrastructure through the Coinbase Developer Platform x402 SDK.

The U.S.-based cryptocurrency platform Coinbase (COIN) is addressing perceived gaps in the AI agent economy by enabling businesses to receive payments from AI agents. This new initiative also supports users who deploy agents for trading and research, along with developers creating solutions for these agents.

Beginning this week, Coinbase Business clients will have the capability to accept payments from AI agents through the x402 protocol, which was created and nurtured by the exchange. This allows businesses to receive payments in USDC from agents without requiring additional configuration, facilitated by Coinbase Payments, as stated in a recent press release.

Sid Coelho-Prabhu, Head of Coinbase Business, explained that every shopping experience involves two parties: a shopper who has a credit card and a merchant with a point of sale system. “We are delivering that experience for the new online agentic economy,” Coelho-Prabhu noted during an interview. “Agents, on one side of the transaction, will go and read the Coinbase developer docs, create a wallet for themselves, and are ready to shop. Then we empower businesses so that everything in their inventory is now available on the internet through this agent-friendly checkout flow.”

For exchange users, a new feature will offer a live order list displaying an agent’s current and active orders in real-time, including status, price, and size, which enables users to monitor every action, according to Coinbase's press release.

This feature will facilitate agentic trading for users, with agents receiving real-time market data and the ability to operate autonomously based on specified conditions. “Tell it what you want in plain English – ‘buy ETH if it dips 5%,’ ‘sell when my order fills’ – and it watches the market and executes for you. The same WebSocket data that powers institutional desks is now accessible through natural language,” Coinbase stated.

Additionally, developers can utilize a new x402 SDK from the Coinbase Developer Platform, allowing them to integrate x402 payment acceptance into any API, MCP server, or web service with just three lines of code.
