Cloudflare, a provider of network infrastructure, has launched a reservation system for unique names associated with Cloudflare Wallets. This new feature will allow AI agents to use programmable wallets for payments related to APIs, data, content, and MCP tools using stablecoins.

The aim of Cloudflare is to provide these agents with a payment tool and a readable identifier, allowing vendors to understand the source of the requests. According to company representatives, users can initially reserve a unique address at cloudflare.pay, with plans to introduce features for funding, withdrawing, and issuing virtual wallets for agents in the future.

How the Wallets Will Function

Cloudflare will offer two types of wallets:

  • Account Wallet — designed for the Cloudflare account owner, functioning as a general balance;
  • Virtual Wallet — created specifically for an individual AI agent and managed through API keys.

Owners will be able to set spending limits for the Virtual Wallet, approve a list of vendors, and establish maximum transaction sizes. This feature is intended to allow agents to independently test inexpensive APIs or paid data sources without requiring constant human approval.

If an agent exceeds its limit, it can request manual approval. In cases of unusually rapid spending, the administrator of the Account Wallet will have the opportunity to review transactions and either increase the limit or halt spending altogether.

Cloudflare has not provided a specific list of supported stablecoins, only mentioning the ability to store, send, and receive "stable coins," along with upcoming methods for funding and withdrawing in supported jurisdictions.

The Role of x402

In September 2025, Cloudflare and Coinbase announced the formation of the x402 Foundation, an organization aimed at promoting x402 as an open standard for internet payments, including transactions between machines and autonomous agents. The wallets will become part of the provider's payment infrastructure.

In July, Cloudflare introduced the Monetization Gateway, a tool enabling its clients to charge for access to pages, datasets, APIs, and MCP. Payments will be processed through x402 and settled in stablecoins.

In May, AWS launched AgentCore Payments, a service that allows agents within Amazon Bedrock to pay for APIs, MCP servers, and web content using x402.

That same month, the Solana Foundation and Google Cloud launched Pay.sh, allowing AI agents to make payments for access to Google Cloud services, including Gemini, BigQuery, and Vertex AI, using stablecoins on the Solana network.

Additionally, in September 2025, Cloudflare's CEO Matthew Prince revealed plans to launch a stablecoin called NET Dollar, designed to facilitate fully automated transactions without human involvement.

In July 2026, the network infrastructure provider warned it would begin blocking all "mixed" AI-based web crawlers by default on its pages.
