On August 7, the Central Bank of Brazil approved a regulation requiring virtual asset service providers to hold transfers exceeding $10,000 for 24 hours if the funds are being sent to foreign crypto companies or non-custodial wallets. This threshold applies both to individual transactions and the total amount transferred by a client in a single day. During the holding period, the company is expected to conduct an additional risk assessment and has the right to terminate the transaction early. The regulator emphasized that this measure is precautionary and does not equate to blocking funds. The new rules will take effect on January 1, 2027.
