  • Bitcoin is on the verge of achieving its first winning streak from July to September since 2012.
  • The previous streak in 2012 was followed by an October drop of 9.7%, but it led to a substantial rally exceeding 2,000% from the monthly low.

BTC$85,882.16 has recorded gains in both July and August, and it appears poised to finish September on a positive note, marking a rare three-month winning streak in the cryptocurrency's history.

According to data from CoinDesk, Bitcoin's price increased by 4.8% in July and surged by 25.2% in August. As of now, September shows a 10.9% rise, with prices trading at $86,140.

The only other instance of such a streak occurred in 2012, where prices rose 41.0%, 6.4%, and 24.4% during those months.

Following that, October saw a 9.7% decrease, which reached a low of $10.17 on October 26. This decline was the precursor to one of Bitcoin's most significant rallies, a 165-day surge that saw prices jump to $230 by April 2013, reflecting an increase of over 2,000%, based on CoinDesk's daily price data analysis.

It remains uncertain whether this year will mirror the 2012 pattern with a downturn in October followed by a substantial rally, or if it will take a different trajectory. The sample size is too small to draw definitive conclusions, as Bitcoin has been traded since late 2010, with this pattern emerging only once before.

Nonetheless, the situation is noteworthy due to its rarity, the significant rally following the 2012 streak, and Bitcoin's broader four-year market cycle. Some models suggest a potentially bullish phase could begin around October or November, although historical patterns are more approximate than strict timelines.

Moreover, any potential rally's scale might be less dramatic than those experienced in Bitcoin's earlier years. In 2012, Bitcoin was a low-volume asset valued at just under $10, easily influenced by a limited number of buyers.

Today, Bitcoin exists within a multi-trillion dollar market characterized by significant institutional involvement, substantial liquidity in both spot and derivatives markets across numerous platforms, and a diverse array of trading strategies, including options, futures, and basis trades. Such market conditions were not present at a comparable scale in 2012, making it more challenging to achieve similar percentage gains today.
