Bitcoin approached $84,000 on Monday, marking a nearly 2% increase over the past 24 hours and continuing its upward trajectory that began late last week, according to CoinDesk data.
Among larger cryptocurrencies, Monero's XMR stood out with a remarkable 13% surge, reaching nearly $588, although it retracted about 4% in the last hour. DOGE climbed by 5% and XRP increased by 4%, settling just above $1.45. Other notable performers included Ether, SOL, and HYPE, each gaining approximately 3%, while BNB and ZEC saw a 2% rise. TRX lagged behind, with gains of less than 1%.
Broadly, risk assets experienced an uptick. S&P 500 futures rose over half a percent, and Nasdaq 100 contracts increased nearly 1%, driven by strength in technology stocks across various regions. Treasuries advanced across the board, and European bonds outperformed their U.S. counterparts. The dollar remained stable.
The decline in oil prices contributed significantly to this market movement. Brent crude fell for the fourth consecutive session, marking its longest losing streak in three months. Traders are closely watching diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran to restore crude shipments from the Middle East. President Donald Trump indicated in an interview with Fox News that he would likely be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly this week.
Lower energy prices may alleviate inflation concerns that have kept the Federal Reserve on a hawkish stance, and traders are also positioning themselves ahead of a summit between Trump and Xi later this week.
