Apple has reclaimed its position as the most valuable company globally. Will it maintain this status until the end of July?
According to Polymarket, a platform where contract prices reflect crowd-sourced probabilities, Apple’s likelihood of finishing July at the top surged over 50% in about a single day, hitting approximately 79%.
Nvidia, currently the second-largest company in terms of market value, saw its probability decrease to around 22%, with the market amassing a total trading volume of approximately $4.7 million.
At the end of Tuesday’s trading, Apple was valued at about $4.995 trillion, compared to Nvidia’s $4.768 trillion, giving Apple a lead of roughly $227 billion.
While this figure is substantial, it’s also precarious enough to vanish in a volatile trading session.
After facing criticism for its delayed entry into the artificial intelligence sector, Apple’s cautious approach to investing in massive GPU infrastructures now appears more like prudent risk management than missed opportunities.
Investor apprehension is rising regarding AI capital expenditures—the investments companies allocate for long-term assets like chips, servers, and data centers. According to a Reuters report, five leading cloud firms could exceed their free cash flow through capital expenditures by 2027.
Nvidia is at the forefront of this spending landscape. Its stock took a hit as investors expressed skepticism about reports suggesting the chipmaker might provide a $250 billion financial safety net for an OpenAI data center initiative, raising concerns about AI firms financing their own clients.
However, Apple is not entirely absent from the AI conversation. The company introduced a revamped Siri in early June, featuring conversational capabilities and personal context awareness, leveraging both external models and its own compact on-device systems.
This approach had previously been seen as evidence of Apple falling behind in the AI race, but now it appears more cost-effective.
Nevertheless, Nvidia remains robust, with its data center revenue increasing by 75% to $62.3 billion in its most recent quarter, highlighting the strong demand for AI infrastructure.
Apple is set to release its fiscal third-quarter results on July 30 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The Polymarket contract will conclude based on which company holds the highest market capitalization at the close of trading on July 31.
