Apple launched a new Siri AI and A20 Pro chip at its September event, marking major advancements in its technology and product line.

At the "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9, Apple introduced a significantly updated Siri AI, powered by Google's Gemini technology through a $1 billion annual partnership. However, this enhanced Siri will not be available on iPhones or iPads in the European Union initially.
The launch also featured the new A20 Pro chip, a breakthrough for Apple as it is the first chip produced using TSMC's 2-nanometer process. This chip incorporates a dual Neural Engine with 32 cores, doubling the capability of the previous generation.
Leadership Transition
John Ternus took the stage as Apple's new CEO, shortly after succeeding Tim Cook, who now holds the position of executive chairman. Ternus emphasized the importance of personalized technology, saying, "This is the fastest chip ever included in an iPhone," in reference to the A20 Pro, aligning with Apple's vision of creating deeply personal devices.
Revamped Siri AI Features
This iteration of Siri represents a major leap in functionality since its launch in 2011. The AI can now engage in conversations, access on-screen content, and perform tasks across over 300,000 third-party applications without users needing to repeat context. Showcased initially at WWDC in June, the new Siri uses a blend of on-device models and Private Cloud Compute for complex tasks. The beta rollout begins this month in select regions.
Details on the A20 Pro Chip
The A20 Pro chip is designed for enhanced performance, featuring a six-core CPU that is up to 20% faster than its predecessor, the A19 Pro. It also includes a newly upgraded seven-core GPU, which enhances graphical performance by 40%. The dual 32-core Neural Engine will greatly improve AI processes, supported by a new cooling system capable of managing demanding tasks without overheating.
Introducing the iPhone Duo
Additionally, Apple announced its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, with a starting price of $1,999. The device offers a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner screen, available in dark blue and white, and is compatible with the Apple Pencil. Unlike previous models, the iPhone Duo features Touch ID instead of Face ID and will debut in October, a month after other new products.
iOS 27, which incorporates the new Siri AI and capabilities, is set for release on September 14, compatible with devices starting from the iPhone 11 onwards, though advanced features will be limited to the latest models.
