Anthropic has launched its latest AI model, Claude Opus 5.5, which is now available at significantly reduced prices. The model is priced at $4 and $20 per million tokens, representing a 40% decrease compared to its predecessor, Opus 5, and a 60% reduction from the premium Fable 5.1 model.

Performance and Pricing Advantages

According to Anthropic, Claude Opus 5.5 performs comparably to Fable 5.1 across most tasks, particularly excelling in coding and knowledge tasks. Although GPT-6 Astra outperforms it in specific benchmarks like AutomationBench and Terminal-Bench-Science 0.1, Opus 5.5 has been recognized for its ability to complete complex professional tasks effectively.

The model achieves a score of 66.4% in the Terminal-Bench 4.0 evaluation, outperforming Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra in that category. In the FrontierCode assessment, Opus 5.5 scored 54.4%, again surpassing Fable 5.1's 50.3%.

Strategic Release and Future Plans

This launch marks the first release since CEO Dario Amodei called for a moderation in AI advancements, emphasizing the importance of safety evaluations. Opus 5.5 includes the same cybersecurity and biological safeguards as Fable 5.1, although for most cybersecurity tasks, the earlier Opus 4.8 model remains the default choice.

Anthropic is also set to release Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 in the coming weeks, which will feature similar pricing reductions. Currently, Opus 5.5 is accessible through major cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, making it a competitive option for users seeking advanced AI capabilities at lower costs.
