AI Assistant's Error Causes Smart TV Setup Loss
In a recent incident involving AI technology, a user attempting to customize their LG smart TV faced significant setbacks due to an error by the AI assistant, Claude. The user aimed to vibe-code their TV by installing the Free My TV launcher, an open-source application designed to enhance the LG webOS interface.
The process began smoothly as Claude analyzed the installation code, confirming its cleanliness and initiating the setup. However, the AI did not account for the user's previously rooted setup, which utilized the Homebrew Channel for ad-free viewing and additional functionalities. Upon Claude's recommendation to enable Developer Mode, the user's entire rooted configuration was wiped out, including the Homebrew Channel and ad-free YouTube.
The user expressed frustration, noting, "Homebrew Channel just disappeared from my TV! Also my Ad free YouTube! What happened?" In response, Claude admitted fault, stating, "I owe you a straight answer: this was my fault." Despite the AI's attempts to restore the lost applications, the original root access could not be retrieved due to firmware updates that patched the exploit used for rooting.
