The newly released software is leading among validators in the network, yet it has not surpassed the older v3.1.3 in terms of node count. The security amendment that accompanies it is also undergoing a slower voting process. For the upgrade to be activated, it requires the support of 80% of the trusted validator list.

- Despite slower overall adoption, around 89% of validators on the default Unique Node List have upgraded to v3.2.0, exceeding the 80% threshold needed for the network upgrade.
- A separate on-ledger amendment, fixCleanup3_2_0, which includes important security enhancements and improvements for features such as lending, vaults, and multi-purpose tokens, has not gained similar support.
The XRP Ledger's latest server software, v3.2.0, is intended to make operations more cost-effective and stable, particularly for institutional users. While it is seeing some uptake, it has not yet surpassed the older version (3.1.3) in the overall network, and the essential security updates included are still in the voting stage.
Among the roughly 833 active nodes within the XRP Ledger—machines responsible for storing and transmitting the ledger—about 43% are operating on v3.2.0, while 51% remain on v3.1.3, according to XRPSCAN data.
Although the overall adoption of nodes is relatively sluggish, the validators, who play a crucial role in the network, have largely completed their upgrades.
The XRP Ledger relies on a trusted group of validators called the Unique Node List (UNL). For any software version or amendment to become active, it must attain sustained backing from over 80% of validators on that list for two consecutive weeks.
On the default UNL of 35 validators, 31 have upgraded to v3.2.0, representing approximately 89%, surpassing the required threshold for the network's upgrade. This figure, rather than the total node count or percentage of all validators, determines whether the upgrade is finalized.
The amendment lagging behind
Accompanying the software is a separate issue that is lagging significantly behind.
The amendment known as fixCleanup3_2_0 is currently in the voting process. Unlike a standard software upgrade, this is a formal vote on the ledger. It encompasses multiple security fixes and enhancements for the network's newer functionalities, including single-asset vaults, permissioned decentralized exchanges, multi-purpose tokens (MPTs), and the lending protocol. The lending protocol allows users to borrow against pooled resources, as reported by CoinDesk last month.
Additionally, it incorporates internal checks to ensure that deleted accounts do not leave residual data. However, this amendment is polling significantly lower than the software adoption, indicating that upgrading a validator and voting on the amendment are two separate processes.
Ripple, the payment company that was founded by the creators of the XRP Ledger, has expressed support for the fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment. Validators that do not upgrade prior to the amendment's activation risk being excluded from the ledger, a state referred to as amendment-blocked.
